I don’t see why it couldn’t hold just as much as a normal tow hitch once it’s locked in place. Think about all the movable/adjustable things in the world that are also load bearing. Also, it’s not like the car has to tow a 20,000lb. trailer. A couple thousand pounds is probably the most it would see use for either way.

It’s hard to see, but I think I agree. There appears to be one pivot, and from here it looks kinda beefy.

I think it has plenty of lateral strength for class I or maybe class II towing, but I’m not so sure about tongue weight. I also don’t see any attachment points for safety chains...

I only use my hitch for a bike rack so yeah, this would be completly useless to me, without a 2" receiver hitch hole.

Probably true, but like I said, this will likely only be used to tow the occasional jet ski. And I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get a fixed one as an option as well.

Will never be as strong as a direct connection of the same weight and materials. You can engineer a movable joint that will be just as strong, just expect it to be heavier and/or more expensive.

I believe those are pretty Common in Europe. They aren’t all powered but I’ve seen ones that swing away under the bumper.
